Summary
Our research explores the nature of natural language by investigating two aspects of language: iconicity and metaphor.
1. Iconicity: We investigate the relationship between arbitrariness and unarbitrariness in natural language by analyzing structures and functions of iconicity. We focus on three aspects of iconicity in language: [1] embodied motivations of sound symbolism, [2] cross-linguistic properties of mimetics, and [3] structures and characteristics of poetic language.
2. Metaphor: Our goal is to clarify structures of conceptual mappings between different conceptual domains such as time, space, and emotions.
